Redruth Youth Conference
Redruth Youth Conference
What a day the Redruth Youth Conference was! After weeks of work in primary schools across Redruth, everything came together at Kresen Kernow, where children connected over their shared love of the natural world and their passion for being local changemakers.
The day began with children gathering in circles to connect with each other and also share how they feel about the climate crisis, as well as their hopes for the day ahead.
Throughout the day, the children confidently presented the ‘deep dive’ topics they had been exploring in Restorative workshops with Esmee prior to the conference. We learnt so much about healthy rivers and seas, fairer futures, food for the future, young people’s voices and many more inspiring themes. We are so impressed at their knowledge, confidence and commitment to making things better for planet earth.
We were also joined by Daze Aghaji, who is an inspiring and influential environmental changemaker and led a brilliant workshop on environmental justice. Through engaging activities and discussion, the children explored why the impacts of the climate crisis are not experienced equally and how fairness and using our voice can help create a more just future. The workshop encouraged everyone to think about the role they can play in making things better.
After an inspiring morning, the afternoon was filled with hands-on workshops. Daze led one workshop, where the children explored the creative and important skill of upcycling. In another workshop, children wrote ‘Letters to the Earth’, the children took time to write powerful messages to the earth through creative writing and then sharing them with one another.
The day as a whole was inspiring and connecting, and we hope to make it a yearly event!
