How do we build a Culture of Care in Cornwall for families with refugee experiences? – Nov 2021

We are all well aware of the huge number of people who have had to flee their home countries to seek refuge from war and persecution in recent years. But did you know that a growing number of refugee families are being resettled in Cornwall?

This is an opportunity for us to show a proper Cornish welcome – with our close knit communities and our beautiful environment, we have so much to offer to families who need a new start. But sometimes it can be hard to know how to offer support and solidarity, and sometimes we are so worried about getting it wrong, that we are put off trying.

Our Culture of Care work is about creating supportive and brave spaces where we can explore issues of diversity, difference and equity, and work together to build caring, supportive communities.

For children and young people with refugee experiences, going to school is such a fundamental part of the journey to feeling settled and safe in their new home.
