FLAMM Arts Festival Bodmin

Our Open Circle group took over a Bodmin pop up for the weekend!

RJ Working was excited to be part of the Flamm Arts Festival which took place in Bodmin.
Our Open Circle group is a space for young adults aged 16-25 to come together to build connection and community and have their voices heard in local decision making. The young people decided they were on a mission to change the narrative about Bodmin (which is often very negative).
They successfully raised funds from FEAST to take part in the festival and worked together over the lead up to design a space for restorative community engagement and conversation.
With the support of IntoBodmin they took over a Pop Up Shop on Bodmin’s highstreet, and hosted a weekend of workshops in which 144 members of the public participated.
Carefully designed circle questions prompted conversations about what people love about Bodmin, and what the town needs more of. Participants were invited to consider how we can better celebrate the diversity of Bodmin’s community, and how we can build a more sustainable future together.
Everyone was invited to share their ideas and messages by contributing to a collective mural, and being interviewed by the young people for a podcast, the first episode of which can be listened to here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/3nu5nC60iyzLKLeM0KeSxj?si=T5B4AVjWQJ-KsdtA9I-Lqw
During the Flamm weekend the Open Circle group were also excited to host Councillor Leigh Frost for a circle discussion about the needs and dreams they have for their community.
We are grateful to Experience Bodmin, FEAST and IntoBodmin for their support and collaboration on this project.
