Tam Martin Fowles joined a team of young people and professionals from Cornwall who welcomed 12 young people and two youth workers from Bosnia Herzogovina for a week-long residential at Golant Youth Hostel in Fowey.
Segregation between Christian Croats and Muslim Bosniaks is still strong in BH following the war that ended in 1995, and our guests represented both groups, working together towards national reconciliation.
The participants learned about each other’s cultures, and shared activities including ice skating, pasty making and Cornish dancing as well as workshops on youth parliament, democratic process and human rights. The week ended with a presentation by all the young people at County Hall followed by Christmas dinner in Truro. It is hoped that funding will be secured for a return visit to Bosnia Herzogovina for the Cornish participants in the near future.
